Celebrating Women In Business With Aoife Doherty From Sass&Halo
As part of international Women’s Day we are celebrating Women in Business and the challenges they face within their careers.
Aoife is the founder of Sass & Halo, who specialise in incredible decorative headwear for festivals, weddings and much more.
From their workshop in Derry’s Craft Village, Aoife and her team have been able to create bespoke products to a global audience. Aoife also has her very own pop up shop allowing Sass & Halo to take their products around the world.
What challenges have you faced as a woman within your industry?
This industry in particular in made up of a lot of females and boss ladies so I can’t say I have ever felt much challenges there. But as a young woman starting my business in general, I found it hard to be taken seriously when choosing this as my career path, which often led to me explaining over and over again until they listened and understood.
Who is your female role-model and why?
Sounds cheesy but it’s probably my Mammy. She is a very strong Lady who takes no nonsense and always gets the job done, in a kind but professional manner. I can take things very personal with work and dwell on things but I’m learning to get better and focus on solutions rather than problems.
What advice would you give to the next generation of women, and what can they do to make a difference?
I would say plan ahead and take your business/job role seriously, because if you don’t, no one else will!! It’s crazy what woman can do when they put their mind to it. And always focus on the positive over the negative.
