An Interview With Aoife-Grace Moore, Political Correspondent

Meet Aoife-Grace Moore. After leaving secondary school Aoife moved to Glasgow to study journalism at Glasgow Caledonia University. Throughout her degree Aoife volunteered  at a number of newspapers both in Glasgow and her hometown of Derry to gain experience. This included The Glasgow Journal, where she reported on current affairs and student stories.

After graduating Aoife moved to Malawi for four months with other journalism students to work with a human trafficking charity and report on the issues. As Aoife had built up her journalism CV from the work experience she had completed, as a result was offered her first job with a press agency where she worked as a freelancer for a range of papers around Glasgow, including The News of The World, The Sun & The Daily Mirror.

Aoife moved to Australia to travel and gain more experience. In Melbourne she found it difficult to get into reporting as she didn’t know the area well or which newspapers to approach. Aoife applied for a range of jobs and eventually got a job as the chief reporter with Arkajon Communications.

After coming back from Melbourne Aoife wanted to move back home to Ireland as she had been living in Glasgow for a number of years. Aoife was offered a position as a reporter with The Irish Daily Star which focused mostly on crime in Dublin. Months after Aoife was offered a position as a journalist with Press Association which is one of the biggest news agencies within the UK & Ireland.

Aoife now currently works as a Political Correspondent with Irish Examiner. Throughout this episode we discuss the different careers in journalism, why work experience is important in journalism, and the benefits of internships and CV building
